Second Life lends itself particularly well to slam poetry for a few reasons. Firstly, one of the biggest issues people have with getting up and performing their poetry is self-confidence. When you can do this as an “avatar,” however, and you can get up on a virtual stage and perform to real people, it’s an amazing boost to self-esteem. I’ve spoken to so many people in SL who got the confidence to first perform their poetry in the virtual world… some have even gone on with their new found confidence to perform in real life.
